Fellowship

Skin Cancer College Australasia is the only skin cancer medicine education provider with an education pathway that culminates in Fellowship.

It is the pinnacle and final step in the College Education pathway. Fellowship is a significant achievement requiring a strong commitment to further study, assessment and skin cancer clinical practice.

Fellowship is available to all doctors who aspire to be recognised as a leader in skin cancer medicine. Please see our RPL requirements here.

Indicative pathway to SCCA Fellowship

“Prospective Fellows should not have to be advised to study. They should have a thirst for any information they can find. At Fellowship level, skin cancer medicine and surgery cannot be condensed into a course of study, it becomes almost a way of life, and you soon realise that you can never reach the end, because it keeps changing.

Fellows must keep up with the latest modalities and their protocols, new trends, new developments, trends in chemotherapy, radiation oncology, and so on. A set curriculum won’t cover all this, and a lot of new information is found in sifting through journals, abstracts, etc.”

Who is eligible to enter the Fellowship pathway?

Entry to the Fellowship pathway is open to doctors who meet both of the following criteria:

• Completed SCCA Advanced Clinical Certificate of Dermoscopy, and 
• Completed SCCA Advanced Clinical Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery

How can I gain entry to the Fellowship pathway?

Entry to the Fellowship pathway is open to doctors who meet both of the following criteria: 

• Completed SCCA Advanced Clinical Certificate of Dermoscopy, and 
• Completed SCCA Advanced Clinical Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery 

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available for entry into the Fellowship pathway?

Yes, RPL is available based on evidence of previous study resulting in a formal qualification that is equivalent to our courses (see ‘Who is eligible for to enter the Fellowship pathway?’ above).

Once RPL eligibility is confirmed, a student can progress directly to SCCA assessments without the need to complete the relevant SCCA coursework. RPL assessments include online examinations and case studies.

How long does the SCCA Fellowship Pathway take to complete?

It takes at least 5 years of study in skin cancer medicine to achieve Fellowship with SCCA. See the ‘Indicative pathway to SCCA Fellowship’ table below for reference. 

Doctors must become Accredited with SCCA first (3+ years of study) before they can gain entry into the Fellowship program. The Fellowship Pathway takes a further 2 or more years after Registrars have passed the entrance examination.
